Cultural Competence Course in the Workplace

Connecting with people with different cultures in the workplace requires intentionality and an ongoing commitment to the company’s diversity mission and core values.

Staff will learn how cultural diversity impacts human behavior and effective strategies to utilize in handling the competing challenges arising between staff from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.

This class incorporates a cultural competence self-assessment tool. This tool will help the staff develop a personal cultural competency action plan with clearly defined short-term and long-term goals as well as measurable objectives.

Course Description

The Cultural Competence in the Workplace course provides employees and managers with cultural insights, knowledge, and practical strategies that lead to behavioral changes at work. Our trainers have found that organizations who transform their workplace culture at its foundations through education, knowledge, and skill-building achieve the best results. When the employees have a solid grasp on cultural awareness and begin using a cross-cultural lens at work, they will be positioned to take the next step and make small behavioral changes at work that are meaningful.

Leadership’s Role

Leadership teams should pay close attention to changing employee workplace experiences, as well as behaviors, attitudes and refine both policies, and structures. Cultural Competence training will examine the concept of multiculturalism and the relationship between attitudes and behaviors, the developmental stages of cultural competence, tools for organizational self-assessment, and practical next steps towards a fully inclusive workplace. The Cultural Competence for Managers program is specifically designed for the managerial and leadership role within the organization.

Organizations rich in cultural competence tend to outperform peers because their employees feel:

  • engaged
  • psychological safety
  • empowered to be their authentic selves and do their best work

This class is customized and includes industry and organization-specific engaging learning exercises to create a highly engaging and effective learning environment. Providing employee training on cultural competence in the workplace is the first step in effecting change.
