MISSION STATEMENTThe Spokane Gender Center is dedicated to serving the public within the Inland Northwest conce ing gender diversity issues for individuals questioning their own gender as well as those seeking information to better understand another’s gender issues. VALUE STATEMENTS The Spokane Gender Center is dedicated to the advocacy and empowerment of transgendered persons to live with courage and integrity. We assist individuals and their families who experience gender dysphoria, a sense of gender incongruity between mind and body, to find harmony. We work to foster a climate of freedom of expression, personal development and self understanding, self confidence, stability in employment and integration of self and community. When applicable, we follow the recommended treatment guidelines as set forth in the Harry Benjamin Inte ational Gender Dysphoria Association (HBIGDA) Professional “Standards of Care” (SOC) PHILOSOPHY The Spokane Gender Center operates on the philosophy that gender is a permanent psychological state which is set early in fetal development. Treatment to change the mind to fit the body has proven futile, however changing the body to fit mind is a viable and successful possible solution among many avenues of treatment.
